This packaging technologist role will be the first within a growing R&D team and will eventually be leading projects for the development of flexible packaging solutions for the Pharmaceutical markets. The client is looking for someone who is in their first or second role looking to bring their skills but develop within a growing business.

Up to £30,000 + benefits

As the first Packaging Technologist within the R&D team you will be working within a fast growing packaging company focused on innovative thermal protection solutions for high value, temperature sensitive pharmaceutical and healthcare products. As Packaging Technologist you will be responsible and accountable for supporting innovative and effective packaging developments, working closely with external Customers and Suppliers and with internal Sales, Marketing, Production and Quality Teams.

This position has the opportunity to grow and develop to the lead engineer in the team as the business grows.

RESPONSIBILITIES

" Design and qualify innovative flexible insulated packaging solutions to meet specific customer and/or market applications.
" Manage design projects from an initial brief by liaising with customers during the development process to final qualification, validation and release to production.
" Visit customer sites to work on specific projects or to support a sales enquiry
" Research materials to identify suitable new materials to support innovation within new product developments and value improvements. Perform required tests, interpret & evaluate data, report results and advise management on suitability and application of new materials.
" Provide technical product support to Customers and colleagues within Sales and other internal departments, recommending appropriate solutions where required.
" Prepare and conduct laboratory tests using approved processes, equipment and materials
" Writing of technical documentation to required standards; to include Engineering Memos, Validation / Qualification Protocols, Performance Summaries and User Guides
" Responsible for the calibration of all equipment used for testing and evaluation of the results.
" Creating 2D Technical Drawings and utilise Thermal Simulation software to assess material properties and to simulate packaging system performance.

QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

" Science based Degree or equivalent in Packaging Design, Materials Science, Physics or similar
" Proven grounding in a packaging design, development or materials testing environment
" Good range of technical knowledge and experience within flexible materials
" Keen interest in New Product Development within highly regulated markets i.e. Healthcare, Pharmaceutical, Food etc
" Must be proficient with Microsoft Office.
" CAD 2D/3D Technical Drawing Skills would be advantageous.
" Excellent analytical, organisational, negotiation and communication skills.
" Ability to work individually or collaboratively as a member of a team
" Creative approach to problem solving

Must be able to travel to visit customers, suppliers and subcontractors as and when necessary.
