MEP Engineer – Tunnel Fire Main

My client is looking to expand their ever growing team with the addition of a MEP Engineer specialising in Tunnel Fire Main.
This is for an initial 8 month fixed term contract with the view to extend, providing everything goes well.

Your role will be to provide technical support to the Head of MEP for Fire engineering under the authority of the Chief Engineer. Also offer technical advice to Contractors as necessary, including guidance on Standards, Specifications and responses to Project Technical Requests (PTR.)

- You should be able to demonstrate experience in design, installation and commissioning of suppression systems.
- Have a background in dealing with "wet systems", which which could be non-automatic installations like fire mains or automatic systems like water mist (aka water fog) or sprinklers.
- Be familiar with BS9990.
- Have some understanding of materials suitable for CRL environment. Have an understanding of Kite markings, CE markings etc. Particularly pipes, valves etc.
- Understanding of hydraulics, including how to determine if pipe sizes allow fire flows, ability to extrapolate from a design drawing if the fire flows can be achieved by the design.

You should be able to demonstrate your competency, through knowledge and experience, of:
- Multi-disciplinary design of railway infrastructure, and the associated design co-ordination and integration
- Delivery of major infrastructure projects and Engineering Management procedures
- Application of Assurance principles and management of Assurance procedures
- Understanding of railway operations and operational safety
- Hazard identification, risk mitigation and management in design
- Infrastructure Manager, and other, relevant Regulations, Standards, Concessions, and relevant engineering and technical guidance and best practice.
