Mechanical Design Engineer
Location; Bedford
Salary; £30,000 - £34,000 + benefits

An automotive consultancy are growing in many different areas of their business and are looking for a mechanical design engineer with a background in design and integration to join the specialist vehicle conversions team. At present, they currently offer test and development consultancy services to a majority of the UK's automotive OEM's and (with the increased workload) are looking to modernise, update and expand their already impressive facilities.

As a mechanical design engineer, you will be responsible for working on a number of vehicle conversion projects following a V-cycle approach. This will involve redesigning a vehicles sub-systems before reintegrating back in to the existing vehicle- sounds easy right? You will meet with customers to provide the technical know-how on projects; before supporting on specifications; create designs and modify existing designs; liaise with suppliers to source components; before working with other functions to integrate the sub-systems back in to the vehicle.

Role Responsibilities
" Design and engineer integration solutions and automotive upgrades on a range of vehicles including passenger cars, light commercial vehicles, trucks and buses.
" Work with other engineering specialists (Electrical, electronic, software, production).
" Consider both technical and commercial aspects for new programmes and projects
" Support the Business Development team in new business acquisition, attending meetings where required to win new business
" Ensure product design reflects the volume and pricing of the proposed product or service
" Ensure that the Bill of Materials are kept up to date and that discrepancies and modifications are fed back via the Engineering Change Meeting

" Ideally educated to degree level or equivalent in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering.
" Previous background in automotive engineering to vehicle manufacturer quality standards
" Strong background in CAD modelling, assemblies and technical drawings preferably in SolidWorks
" Knowledge of vehicle systems, legislative requirements and equipment supplier capabilities
" Full UK driving license
" Hold or ability to obtain UK Defence Business Services (DBS) National Security Vetting (NSV) 'SC' or 'DV' Clearance
