Due to continued success the company now seeks a mechanical design engineer to aid in the development of existing projects and next generation products by bringing new innovative design methods, processes and capabilities to the team.
The client is looking for a contractor to get involved with new product development which involves taking control of subsystem and specific machine component projects. Engineers will need to have proven knowledge of dynamic mechanisms and / or electromechanical products. This could include machine design, motors, actuators, Machinary, complex mechanisms, gears, robotics
Main Responsibilities: -
" As a competent Mechanical Design Engineer the jobholder's responsibilities will tend to be broader, as compared to a Junior Mechanical Engineer, in both complexity and diversity. E.g. more responsibility is placed on the whole machine as opposed to mainly sub-assemblies. They will also be involved, to a greater extent in the full design/ development cycle e.g. development of concept/ identification of need and through to the design and testing of solutions. The jobholder will also work with areas of Engineering Change and modifications to existing systems where appropriate.
" Liaise with Team/ Project Leader/s to clarify objectives, area of responsibility and standards associated with each specific piece of work to be undertaken.
" Liaise with internal staff (e.g. Customer Service Engineers, Engineers from within Mechanical Engineering and other Engineering disciplines) for the purpose of clarifying the exact nature of identified faults and parameters for project success.
" Where appropriate, build initial design/ prototype, with or without outside assistance, and subsequently test in accordance with department standards.
" Undertake deliverables within a large project or a complete smaller project, to agreed targets (time, cost, quality).
" Through appropriate testing procedures, ensure new/ modified item is 'fit for purpose' and in line with overall design requirements.
" Liaise with suppliers to confirm specifications of new/modified items for prototype and production purposes.
" Where appropriate, manage elements of specific design/ development project on behalf of the Mechanical Engineering department.
" When appropriate, act as Mechanical Design 'expert' whilst liaising with customers to establish the exact characteristics of an identified fault or the specification for a requested change in functionality.
" Produce and complete appropriate documentation related to the mechanical design process e.g. Pro Engineer models, engineering drawings, change requests, relevant bills of materials etc, relating to the new or modified item.
" Liaise with Engineering Services for the purposes of moving a 'proven' design into the production phase.
" Provide coaching, in own areas of expertise, to more junior members of the Mechanical Engineering team.
" Attend design review meetings, as required by the project team leader/s, to confirm progress made, difficulties encountered and to receive information from other project team members.
" Assist where necessary with any cost reduction exercises.
" Adhere to and comply with all relevant departmental and company standards/procedures and compile associated documentation.
Personal Requirements: -
" Qualified, to degree or equivalent level (preferably in mechanical engineering or related discipline).
" Possess a minimum of 2 years experience working successfully in engineering (preferably mechanical oriented) role.
" Influential within their discipline and competent in all the major aspects of mechanical engineering.
" Able to share own expertise and provide guidance and support to other team members; influential within own team.
" Able to work under own initiative with limited guidance required in own area of knowledge.
" Able to develop knowledge/skills in one area or broadens ability over a variety of skills.
" Able to apply knowledge and skills to a variety of standard and non-standard problems; able to identify unusual technical problems.
" Able to communicate effectively face to face and in writing with people at various levels in an organisation.
" Able to build stable and useful working relationships.
" Able to apply a logical and systematic approach when solving relatively complex problems.
