Job DescriptionJob Title: Manufacturing Quality and Continual Improvement Manager
Location: Poole, Dorset
Managing, promoting and continually improving the manufacturing Quality Management System (QMS) that underpins the manufacturing and support of products and services in the All-weather Lifeboat Centre (ALC).
Team All-weather Lifeboat Centre
Responsible to Head of Construction & Refit (Internal)
Responsible for ALC Quality Inspection Team and Continuous Improvement Team
To develop, implement and manage the QMS for all new-build, maintenance and refit activities at the ALC and manufacturing sites. Provide leadership to the ALC in the identification and resolution of quality concerns. Manage the commissioning processes for new build, refit and repaired lifesaving equipment.
o Develop and manage the ALC QMS ensuring it complies with the requirements of ISO 9001 and other relevant quality, marine industry standards.
o To maintain a working knowledge of processes, procedures, policies, regulations and strategy in order to ensure the effective implementation of the QMS
o Lead the training and development of staff, suppliers and sub-contractors in the implementation of the QMS
o To manage the ALC Quality Inspection and Continuous Improvement Teams daily operations
o To support the preparation of detailed plans and resource requirements for inspection and repair activity
o To schedule inspection operations, monitor and report status against plan
o To investigate and lead countermeasure activity on quality problems and completing reports
o To manage the preparation and issuing of quality reports and data analysis, identifying trends, progress and overall organisation quality performance across the ALC. Ensure regular benchmarking takes place.
o To oversee change management for ALC, including coordination of change management teams
o Facilitate the management of the ALC risk register and lead risk management meetings
o Ensure compliance with quality & safety management systems such as COSHH, LOLER, IMTE, PUWER, etc
o To ensure all boat records are compiled and managed in conjunction with other departments
o To plan and lead Continuous Improvement activities for the ALC and associated areas, in line with RNLI strategy
o Support the implementation of Visual Management in all areas of ALC, including support departments
o To maintain effective communication and liaison with relevant departments and contractors, suppliers and customers
o Produce financial budget proposals and manage budgets for areas of responsibility
o To become involved in other ad hoc tasks as required.
Essential - HNC/degree or equivalent in Engineering or Manufacturing discipline. Formal Quality Management System qualification or equivalent. Working knowledge of Continuous Improvement (Lean or equivalent) methods. Desirable - Lead ISO Auditor qualification.
Significant experience in developing, implementing and improving quality management systems. Strong leadership, communication and relationship management skills. Substantial experience with continuous improvement methodology in a production environment. Experience of dealing with contractors and external professional bodies.
