Engine Build Technician

My client provides vehicle test, validation and engineering services to customers in the automotive, transport, tyre, petrochemical, defence and security industries. It is independent and impartial in everything it does. It has a range of test facilities for components and full vehicles. These include varied indoor and outdoor test tracks in the UK and Northern Finland, engine dynamometers, environmental chambers, crash laboratories and advanced emissions chassis dynamometers.

Job Description

Engine Strip & Build Technician
Bedfordshire

My client provides vehicle test, validation and engineering services to customers in the automotive, transport, tyre, petrochemical, defence and security industries. It is independent and impartial in everything it does.
It has a range of test facilities for components and full vehicles. These include varied indoor and outdoor test tracks in the UK and Northern Finland, engine dynamometers, environmental chambers, crash laboratories and advanced emissions chassis dynamometers.

Roles Responsibilities
" Carry out prototype engine strip and build on a variety of engine types
" Full assessment of parts for re-use and evaluation of wear to support end of test report content
" Assist in instrumentation of engine components during builds
" Organise new Engine Build Area to ensure efficient operation
" Ensure agreed deadlines are met
" To liaise with supporting staff, engineers, supervisors and customers on a technical level

Criteria:

Qualifications
" City and Guild in Automotive or Engineering
" (Full Automotive / engineering apprenticeship or HNC)

Skills
" Must have a sound engine build and strip background preferably in an OEM or prototype build environment
" Instrumentation experience (thermocouples, pressure transducers etc.)
" Excellent understanding of gasoline and diesel engine operation
" Photographic experience would be advantageous
" Proficient in engine build and strip processes
" Understanding the assembly of prototype engine components
" Good understanding of evaluating worn engine components
" Understanding of complex modern engine technologies and the associated build processes
" Able to identify and conclude on root causes of engine and component failures
" Familiarity and experience of associated tooling to support builds
" Skills in electronic, electrical and mechanical engine diagnostics would be advantageous
" Good general IT skills especially MS Excel
