Job Description

Emissions Technician - Portable Emissions (PEMS)
Commutable from; Bedford, Milton Keynes, Northampton, Luton, Royston, Banbury.
Salary from; £Competitive + Benefits

The engine development and emissions market is in the news on a daily basis at the moment and with the ever increasing government awareness striving for a carbon free future, a growing automotive consultancy are looking to play their part in that. At present, they currently offer test and development consultancy services to a majority of the UK's automotive OEM's and (with the increased workload) are looking to modernise, update and expand their powertrain/engine testing capabilities.

Furthermore, the EU has recently introduced a new piece of legislation which states that all vehicles will need to be tested out on the highway as dyno testing cannot account for variables like road surface, aerodynamic drag and the constant stop/start of UK traffic. With that in mind, this role will be responsible for all aspects of portable emissions and fuel consumption testing from vehicle preparation, equipment installation, testing, formulating and validating test results. Maintaining and calibrating all PEMS related test equipment.

Role Responsibilities

" Preparing vehicles prior to testing and planning for unforeseen issues
" Performing a variety of tests on track, on public roads and on chassis dynamometers driving to various cycles
" Collating test results from various logging equipment and validating approval
" Developing improved systems of work and installation of equipment to the vehicle
" Maintaining and calibrating all PEMS related equipment used for testing
" Liaise with Powertrain Engineering and work closely with customers
" Some working off site may be required. Including overnight stays in the UK and Europe

" Good understanding of basic motor vehicle fundamentals
" Hold a current UK Driving Licence
" Flexibility to travel as and when required
" Willing to undergo a Criminal Records Bureau check
" Previous work within sheet metal fabrication.
" Worked with engine and vehicle instrumentation.

This position will be working days with the occasional need to work late or start early.
