Instrumentation & Calibration Technician
Northampton

Instrumentation & Calibration Technician to provide electronic / electrical technician support to the Build and Test Department. This will involve specifying, designing, building, commissioning, maintaining, fault finding, repairing and calibrating instrumentation and control systems.

Responsibilities:
Support users of the engine and vehicle test facilities:
Communicate directly with our internal and external customers to understand their needs and then implement appropriate solutions.
Contribute to the design of bespoke electronic instrumentation or control equipment from first principles. Build, install, commission and produce engineering documentation for this equipment where required.
Install and set up instrumentation and control equipment in an efficient manner, based on a sound technical understanding of the equipment and its functionality.
Maintain and repair instrumentation and control equipment. This will be achieved through following structured fault analysis techniques and by having a good sound knowledge of electrics / electronics fundamentals. Asset recording and allocation. Calibrate sensors and other equipment.
Produce standard work procedures detailing any relevant key processes or activities required to fulfil job role. This could cover instrumentation set up & and control changes / improvements / repairs.
Produce commissioning / validation / testing reports where required for internal stake holders.
Responsible for repairing & managing test facility PC hardware.
Identify opportunities to improve processes or procedures relevant to the business requirements.
Support I&C Engineers in the upgrade of the instrumentation and control equipment.

Qualifications:
A minimum of an industry recognised qualification in electronics/electrics control, instrumentation or any other relevant discipline is required.

Requirements:
o A minimum of 3 years experience working in an test facility environment, preferably relating to engines, rigs, vehicles or aerospace.
o Experience and good broad knowledge of and ability to work with complex electrical and electronic instrumentation and electromechanical equipment.
o Good problem solving skills.
o Safety conscious.
o Ability to work well under pressure to priority and time constraints.
o Ability to work in a varied role, working effectively on multiple tasks in parallel.
o Experience of calibrating sensors and other equipment.
o Experience of undertaking and small projects
o Self-motivated, conscientious with the ability to communicate effectively and work either independently or as part of a team.
o Well organised, good planning skills with an eye for detail.
o Good knowledge of PC's including how to specify, maintain, diagnose issues, repair and upgrade hardware.
o Ability to perform simple manual operations such as drilling and sawing, e.g. for electronic enclosure assembly / modification.
o Able to learn quickly about new subjects and apply that learning to current tasks.
