A Global market leading Defence Electronics Company in Southampton have an exciting opportunity for a Design Manager to join their team. You will manage and develop the capabilities of the Product Design Authorities (PDA) team within their Optronics / Infrared Detector Group. The PDAs combine the responsibilities of the Systems Engineer, Project Engineering Lead and the Design Authority.

Design Manager
Rate: £50-£60,000 + Benefits
Location: Southampton

A Global market leading Defence Electronics Company in Southampton have an exciting opportunity for a Design Manager to join their team.
You will manage and develop the capabilities of the Product Design Authorities (PDA) team within their Optronics / Infrared Detector Group. The PDAs combine the responsibilities of the Systems Engineer, Project Engineering Lead and the Design Authority.

PDAs are the lead designers for development projects and for production support. The key skills for the PDA role are a broad understanding of the design, manufacturing processes, and testing methodology of the product combined with an appreciation of the systems into which the product is installed.

Key Responsibilities

" You will manage a group of PDAs to achieve project technical, cost and schedule objectives and milestones.
" Delivery of the overall engineering solution on time, to cost and performance across all projects
" Ensure for each project that compliance of the design solution against the total requirement, including customer requirements, acceptance, legislative and contractual requirements and product safety requirements is managed.
" Bid support, requirements capture and delivery of engineering estimates
" Engineering governance, tailoring of engineering process to suit project needs
" Development of the teams technical and management capabilities in line with the company's future requirements.
" Challenging and validating estimates and schedules, including forward load requirements.

Skills, Qualifications and Knowledge
Experience Required

" Degree or equivalent in technical subject
" 5+ years of technical leadership in project environment - change to experience of technical leadership in a project environment
" Experience of product design and all phases of the engineering life cycle
" Managing technical aspects of programmes at customer level

Desirable
" Background knowledge of infrared technology
" Technical background including some of the following semiconductors, precision engineering, high reliability vacuum/cryogenic, electro-optics, military product development, space
