Duration: 6 months
Rate: £40 p/hr
One of the world's largest defence organisations are now seeking an Industrial Engineer to lead and support Engineering Design, Manufacturing Engineering, Production Engineer and Supply Chain disciplines. The successful candidate will ideally be currently SC Cleared or must be able to obtain SC Clearance. We cannot consider your application if you do not meet this criteria.
The Industrial Engineering team will be expected to lead or support the following disciplines in developing and improving the manufacturing capability and strong candidates will possess some experience in all the disciplines identified below:
Industrial Engineering will be responsible for drawing approval in consideration of appropriate materials, process cost (UPC), tooling access, component manufacturability and assembly feasibility.
Industrial Engineers should have a proven track record of influencing design and be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of DFM that will support Manufacturing Expectations
The industrial Engineer will be able to demonstrate a good understanding of datum structure and be able to identify functional datum features and key characteristics as designs are created. The IE should also be able to guide design in the application of appropriate GD&T and dimensional detail to support the product functional datum structures. The IE will be able to analyse tolerances to present tolerance stack guidelines for a given assembly or structure.
Industrial Engineering should also be able to identify cross programme commonality and cost opportunities and be able to create standard part and procedure definition documentation such as Preferred Materials or Weld Standards.
Deliver Manufacturing Engineering tooling and facility planning solutions, providing guidance to locator strategies and key characteristics of product design. To ensure all tooling conforms to the performance and duty cycle requirements of the process plan. The IE should also be able to apply SPC as required to establish process performance and the Manufacturing facility capability.
Provide process flow solutions and capacity planning supported by simulation examples and options when required to suit Vehicle fabrication, machining and assembly facilities. Participate in Kaizen activities to lead and develop continuous improvement opportunities to existing or planned facility and process. Support facility and equipment commissioning as required by production.
The Industrial Engineer will assess manufacturing readiness and performance for the duration of a given programme working in conjunction with Quality Engineering identifying process risk with the ability to provide appropriate corrective action and containment solutions for capital equipment, tooling and component suppliers as required.
" Familiarity with a 3D CAD package sufficient to support presentation of data in respect of DFM solutions and highlighting model and tooling clash conditions.
" A comprehensive understanding of Engineering Drawing Practice with the ability to recognise datum structures, interpret and apply appropriate GD&T as well as identify key characteristics.
" Demonstrate a level of design and manufacturing process industry experience; which may include mechanical assembly, machining, fabrication, welding, casting, plastic moulding and robotics.
" Experience of working with Creo 2.0 or similar package with the ability to interpret models, recognise tooling access and load path issues. Also to create sections and apply images to Power Point presentations to deliver DFM solutions, highlight mechanical assembly and tooling clash conditions.
" Simulation capacity planning to support development of process modelling and logistic requirements.
" Experience of tooling design and production facility development
" The ability to interact with Suppliers in providing process guidance to achieve manufacturing capability in support of Procurement defined objectives.
" Lean Six Sigma qualified
