#CC300... And they are off

Serocor City Cycle 300 Start

Today staff from the Serocor Group tackle the 300-mile cycle ride to raise money for Naomi House children's hospice.

At 7.30am on Wednesday 14 June, 11 challengers and 4 support crew from the Serocor Group of companies set-off on a gruelling challenge to ride 300 miles over three days with a target to raise £20,000 in aid of the Naomi House & Jacksplace hospices for children and young adults. The event took place over three days, completing a gruelling 100 miles and seven to eight hours in the saddle per day.

The primary motivation was the fundraising goal.  The team aimed to raise £20,000 for the charity, thank you so much to everyone who kindly donated.

About #CC300

The challengers include members of the senior management team at the Serocor Group (encompassing ARM, Bloc, Optamor, Hawker Chase and Serocor Solutions) as well as riders and support crew from across the business.

Tom Hickling, Senior Recruitment Consultant at ARM and one of the riders central in organising the event, commented:

“It is a challenging course. The team will be burning around 7,000 calories per day and will climb over 700ft through the North Sussex and South Downs, climbing over 6,000ft in total. In the team we have an Iron Man Challenger, as well as a mixture of gym-goers and some less experienced riders – the result being a fantastic combination of steely determination and genuine ability.”

Sarah Hudson, Area and Business Fundraiser for Naomi House, commented:

“There are fundraising challenges and then there are fundraising challenges. Serocor are really going all out on this one, and to cycle 300 miles over three days is no mean feat. We wish them all the very best with their challenge and thank them for their fabulous and inspiring support.”

Tom continued:

“Whilst it's a great challenge it is nothing compared to the fantastic work that Naomi House & Jacksplace do every day. The hospices provide invaluable palliative care that includes respite, emergency and end of life care for children, young people and their families, affected by life-limiting and life-threatening circumstances. As a team and a business we are passionate about supporting charities however we can, so the City Cycle 300 challenge presented an interesting, challenging and fun way to try and make a difference.”

The £20,000 fundraising target will make a huge difference to the charity and could fund the following:

  • Five overnight respite stays
  • One week summer holiday
  • 10 hydrotherapy sessions
  • Five music therapy sessions
  • Five Grandparents days
  • Eight weeks of nursing care
  • Two youth club sessions
  • Three family rooms for a week
  • One week’s catering for family and visitors
  • Six additional hours of nursing care

The riders have been training in their spare time, either in small groups or separately, whenever possible to prepare for the task – with two taking part in the 100 miles Wiggle Bournemouth Sportive event. Equally, the wider Serocor Group team will also be raising money in other ways, which include 'Turbo Days' – whereby riders cycle on two turbo trainers at the company's Havant HQ (the next of which is being held on Wednesday 3rd June, with support and awareness raising by representatives of Naomi House). The company is also holding a raffle and dress down day amongst staff on Friday 29th May – with prizes donated by suppliers.
