ContractThe Energy Division at ARM are currently recruiting an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a leading Nuclear client based out of Plymouth.
Job Overview:
You will be responsible for supporting design activities from requirements capture, design development from concept through to detailed design, implementation and close out, to through-life support, decommissioning and disposal.
You will be focussed on ensuring compliance with site Licence Conditions, statutory legislation and design codes/standards, producing design guidance, substantiation and analyses, and delivering against agreed budgets/timescales.
Some of your duties will include:
- To support the Mechanical & Nuclear Process Manager and Principal Engineer Mechanical Systems for maintaining the Design Intent of Mechanical Services systems.
- Provision of technical support, advice, guidance, and resolutions to optioneering studies, design reviews, HAZOPS etc.
- Leading and working within a team of engineers, planning, and organising tasks and facilitating progress.
- Managing own workload, maintaining, and updating staff workload and working to time allocations.
- Design and specification of Mechanical Building Services systems - heating, cooling, ventilation, controls, etc.
What do you need to succeed?
- Preferably Degree qualified, or equivalent qualification, in Building Services Engineering / Mechanical Engineering or related subjects.
- Chartered Engineer with CIBSE or IMechE, or working towards CEng.
- At least NVQ Level 5 in an engineering discipline and preferably a registered professional status with an Institute e.g. CIBSE, IET, IMechE.
- Experience of working in a design consultancy and/or experience of working within a contractor design environment
- Knowledge / experience in managing a small team of engineers.
- Detailed knowledge of appropriate, regulations, legislation and technical standards that are applicable to mechanical services system design.
- Understanding of mechanical engineering principles for the design, operation and maintenance of Steam & Condensate, Industrial Gases, Fresh Water, Demineralised Water, HVAC, Domestic Water services etc
- Knowledge of operating within nuclear or other high-hazard environments
- Familiar with energy reduction methods and approaches to decarbonising new and existing buildings. Including principles of building physics such as passive design solutions.
