Gear Grinder

Full-time position - 40 hours a week

This position is with a client of mine, based in Thatcham, who is a worldwide leader in the design and manufacture of transmission systems supporting a wide client base covering top level Motorsport and high performance Automotive.

After undertaking training you will be responsible for carrying out programming and editing functions to produce high-quality components to drawing specifications and quality, you will establish best machining methods when required. You will create and save a comprehensive set up procedure document for work undertaken. As well as storing and maintaining all tooling/gauging linked to the process.

Our transmission systems are used by the World’s top racing teams including Formula 1, IndyCar, Sportscar and Rally. The role will require the successful candidate to liaise with the Manufacturing Support Office (MSO) to discuss manufacturing issues and label defective parts. You will also undertake day to day machine maintenance including, coolant, lubrication and filtration systems. You will reliably record-setting and production times using the current system.

Our innovative transmissions are also being used in the next generation of ultra-high performance hybrid and EV hypercars. The successful candidate will complete all necessary job cards and associated documentation, pack in appropriate packaging and relocate the next operation. You will be able to work to the company schedule, follow the quality procedures and be part of the personal development process. Along with observing the health and safety rules at all times.

About You
We are seeking an individual who has a mechanical or engineering background ideally having undertaken an apprenticeship or basic engineering training.

You will have knowledge of CNC processes. Having knowledge of operating, setting and programming machines is desirable but having the ability to understand engineering drawings and tolerances is a must.

Having on the job experience with an engineering background is desirable as well as working in small batches and short lead times. The ability to work under pressure is essential in this role.
