We have an opportunity for an experienced industrial Principal Engineer, to lead a dynamic team of experts, in the field of either Digital Manufacturing (e.g. automation, data analytics, additive manufacturing) or Business Transformation (e.g. business models, manufacturing systems, continuous improvement). You will provide leadership, for the successful and timely delivery of projects including planning, monitoring, use of resources, and meeting of project targets.
The ideal candidate will think strategically and out of the box, but will also have the skills to actively broaden networks, identifying and exploiting relevant opportunities.
You will have significant Manufacturing and Industrial experience in your own area of specialism and be a confident communicator. Additionally, you will have the ability to analyse and solve complex problems whilst managing multiple internal and external stakeholders. You will possess a good honours degree (2.1 or above) or equivalent in an engineering or scientific discipline, and ideally hold a postgraduate qualification.
To provide technical and thought leadership in technology transfer activities in the field of digital manufacturing or business transformation primarily working on the ERDF funded Digital Innovation for manufacturing project.
-To provide broad ranging leadership, and project management, for the successful and timely delivery of the Digital Innovation for Manufacturing project and other related projects in the field of digital manufacturing, business transformation or manufacturing systems. This includes effective: technical leadership, planning, monitoring, use of resources, analysis and presentation of results to meet project targets.
-To develop and deliver interventions to SMEs; including business engagements, collaborative product and service development, collaborative research and development, project workshops and events and building innovation ecosystems.
-To represent the business as a recognised and credible expert in digital manufacturing, business transformation or manufacturing systems. To work with Academic Principle Investigators and Research Groups to identify the challenges and needs faced by industry. To establish collaborative research and development activities within the project.
-To increase the uptake of collaborative Research and Development in the supply chain mid-caps and SMEs.
-To be responsible for developing and delivering a range of manufacturing and technology related masterclasses.
-To provide the leadership, and to develop, Innovation Managers and Technology Transfer Engineers.
A Degree in an engineering / scientific discipline
Significant proven industrial experience in either digital manufacturing, business transformation or manufacturing systems
The ability to provide strategic and technical leadership to a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and researchers
Extensive knowledge of own area of specialism, with sufficient confidence and ability to line manage individuals who are technical experts in other disciplines
The ability to analyse and solve complex problems with multiple stakeholders
An understanding of the capabilities of specialist equipment that can be found within the digital manufacturing or materials processing/development industry
Ability to identify and exploit new areas of innovation and research in industrial or supply chain contexts
Ability to influence and negotiate in a professional manner, with excellent communication skills, (written and verbal) to interface with academics and industrial collaborators and to actively broaden networks
Ability to generate high quality papers and reports, such as funding bids, business cases, success stories and case studies
Proven track record of project management and delivery of collaborative projects
Proven ability to correctly prioritise a broad range of requests from many customers, both internal and external and ensure project delivery
Able to work independently as well as part of a team, managing workloads of self and the team you are line managing
Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field
Professional membership of appropriate organisations e.g. IMECHE
