The role of Design Analyst is ideally suited to an engineer with an analytical mind who enjoys the challenge of solving engineering transmission problems on high performance components and assemblies in motor racing and automotive applications.
A key part of the role is the analysis of transmission systems and components using finite element analysis (FEA) and classical methods to ensure products meet their specification. A Design Analyst will be expected to interpret and communicate results as well as offer potential solutions to problems. Due to the ever-changing analysis needs you will also help develop new analysis methods and processes. Proficiency in an FEA package such as ANSYS Mechanical would be an advantage.
You will design and analyse gears, splines and bearings with respect to strength and durability to meet challenging packaging and duty cycle requirements. You will also be expected to offer technical solutions for gear and bearing related problems. In addition, the position will entail the specification of manufacturing tooling and gauges and liaising with the factory and suppliers when required. Experience with gear software such as Dontyne or KISSsoft would be beneficial.
A Design Analyst also has a significant role in the managing and co-ordination of condition assessments of components returned after service.
A successful candidate will have the ability to work calmly and constructively in a pressurised priority changing environment and be able to manage their own workload. You will also have initiative, enthusiasm, a flexible approach and ability to work to tight deadlines.
Knowledge and experience in structural analysis of rotating machinery would be desirable. In addition, experience in the following disciplines would be advantageous: Mathematical modelling and simulation, gear design, bearing analysis, transmission simulation software, lubrication/fluid flow, vibration and dynamic simulation.
You will have a degree in a mechanical, automotive, aeronautical or similar discipline. Postgraduate degrees such as MEng, MSc and PhD would also be welcome.
