Systems Engineer (logistics/JAMES)

Our client is a defence contractor manufacturing equipment for the MOD. The Training product line ranges between CBT (Computer-based-training) through to high-fidelity, full-mission simulators for military and civilian domains. The logistic product range includes aircraft ground support equipment, automatic test equipment, health and usage monitoring systems and logistic support software.
Specific Job Description
" Provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) advice to the MoD customer for use of the JAMES Access Devices (JAD) JAMES deployed servers (JDS and JMS) and JAMES Mobile Application.
" Provide support solution expertise covering; Management of JADS, deployed servers, management of updates and patches, configuration management including management through repair chain.
" Assist with defining requirements in conjunction with the MoD customer, for changes to the JAMES application to meet needs of Mobile users.
" Assist with liaising with CIS with regard to the operation and deployment of the JAMES Mobile Solution to the available communications architecture
" Provide oversight and monitoring to ensure the timely delivery of JAMES Message Files to UK main server and back to end user, Anti-Virus updates and application build files.
" Visiting operational and training environments for the JAMES deployed system to assist end users.
" Liaise with the relevant contractor for issues relating both to the application and hardware in accordance with the Concept of Use (CONUSE).
" Assist with the maintenance of Standard Operating Instruction (SOIs) & Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the use of JAMES and JUDs on deployment.
" Assists with implementing, testing, documenting, and maintaining solutions for the integration and testing of in-house developed and COTS/GOTS components, elements, subsystems and/or systems.
" Solves hardware/software interface problems, defines input/output parameters, and helps ensure integration of the entire system or subsystem.
" Conducts subsystem and/or system testing activities within the programme and with other organizations.
" Performs integration regression testing to verify/validate incorporated fixes to software, components, subsystems and systems.
" Any additional Programme related tasks assigned by the JAMES Programme Manager that are within area of expertise, competence and skill set.
Required skills, qualifications and experience
" Extensive knowledge of the UK Military structure and processes
" Strong knowledge and understanding of the JAMES application and processes
" Systems or software engineering background within software-intensive projects
" Strong interpersonal and communication skills
" Analysis of complex technical problems and providing sound Root Cause Analysis
" Work effectively and willingly as part of a team
Desired skills, qualifications and experience [JP] " Conversant with the full System Engineering and Software Engineering design and development life cycle.
" Conversant with Engineering processes, ISO9001, TickIT and be proactive in the continuous process improvement programme
