The client in Southampton is a world-leading manufacturer of Infrared detectors covering a broad range of wavelengths. These devices have widespread uses in industrial and civil applications as well as fulfilling many military requirements. Leonardo also work closely with the scientific community to develop technologies in the Astronomy and Space sector.
Key Responsibility Areas
The client in Southampton requires an experienced Test Engineer to support the delivery of test solutions for product developments.
In this role the candidate will work closely with a multi-functional Integrated Project Team and knowledge specialists within own department to convert new product test requirements into tangible test capabilities against a challenging backdrop of budget and time constraints.
Responsibilities include contribution to and interpretation of test plans; development of test hardware and software making efficient use of existing capabilities where possible; commissioning and debugging of test systems; complex problem solving from system level down to component level and preparation of test documentation in order to enable successful handover to production.
The candidate will be expected to carry out engineering level testing on new products and developing custom on-off engineering tests as part of their role.
Candidate must possess hands-on experience, have demonstrated Test Development skills and be an effective communicator, with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
The candidate should accept a challenging role that is expected to be varied.
Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required
" Bachelor's degree in a relevant practical discipline (or be able to prove an equivalent level of experience and knowledge)
" Experience of New Product Development and/or bespoke test solutions
" Ability to take novel requirements and deliver test solutions ultimately suitable for production, from low to high volume
" Ability to source COTS equipment, design and fabricate non COTS items, e.g. looms
" Strong technical skills in test equipment building, commissioning and diagnosing to root cause associated problems
" Evidence of good organisation, planning, and cost control in execution of work
" Experience of task ownership and management with ability to report progress at a senior level
" Ability to manage priorities in a high pressure environment
" Ability to work closely in a team with other engineering and science disciplines
" Hands-on laboratory test and measurement experience
" Willing to be flexible, independent and self-sufficient with excellent communication skills
" Knowledge of test solutions in the optical domain, ideally Infrared, including pyroelectric single element sensors
" Capability of soldering PCB surface mount components
" Knowledge of working with vacuum technology and cryogenics
" Certified qualifications or equivalent experience in software, firmware or hardware development
" Experience of LabVIEW or C++
" Experience of the design of analogue micro-electronics
