As the Head of Manufacturing you will manage and develop the Company's [low volume and prototype] manufacturing capability delivered through an experienced team of supervisors and technicians including responsibility for facilities, operating processes and systems.
You will support design for manufacture activities working alongside other departments, including engineering, programme management, finance and business development.
You will establish world-class, effective manufacturing processes building a knowledge base for these processes to support future programme tenders.
Expectations of Role:
-Develop overall manufacturing capability and processes, supporting senior management in decision making and company strategy related to manufacturing.
-Support creation of manufacturing cost models, with Finance, in order to support unit and NRE pricing for new projects.
-Leadership of best-in-class processes for relevant assembly and manufacturing methods and work in collaboration with senior management to ensure the most appropriate manufacturing methods are deployed.
-Support of the DFM processes alongside engineering leading the communication of manufacturing requirements.
-Leadership of tooling methods, specification and supplier agreements alongside the engineering department.
-Support the make / buy decision making process as required.
-Develop and maintain traceability and build records allowing manufacturing data to be easily collated, retrieved and interrogated.
-Development (in conjunction with Quality Manager) of appropriate and effective quality documentation and controls for manufacturing, ensuring compatibility with TS16949 standard.
-Leadership of VA/VE to contribute to the continual improvement of the company's manufacturing costs and capacity, and to meet the budgeted production costs.
" Lead, motivate, mentor, coach and develop manufacturing supervisors.
" Support manufacturing supervisors to resolve priority conflicts and plan workload.
" Support manufacturing supervisors to carry out performance reviews and manage performance issues.
" Ensure sufficient resources with the right skills are available to complete current and future projects in a timely manner.
" Ensure development of innovative and consistent manufacturing methods to create high quality products driving change where necessary to achieve required improvements.
" A strong understanding of MRP systems related to small batch manufacture with high value products. Scheduling and transacting works orders.
" Ensure all assembly documentation and records are completed accurately in a timely manner and maintained for future access.
" Develop and manage KPI's to improve the efficiency, quality and reliability of the manufacturing team and the products they assemble.
" Review and investigate new manufacturing methods and technologies.
Health and Safety
" Ensure department operates in accordance to the Health and Safety rules and regulations.
" Ensure department reviews existing risk assessments and new risk assessments are created where processes and materials usage change.
Education, training and qualifications a strong manufacturing/production background supported with a degree in a Manufacturing related subject. Broadly based training in Manufacturing operations.

You must have a strong background in a similar position with a proven track-record.
Experience in Manufacture of low to medium volume electro-mechanical products with high technical content.
Experienced in change implementation and manufacturing process development / innovation.
Able to work independently and as part of a senior management team.
Outstanding commercial awareness.
Ability to work under pressure and to prioritise effectively with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Energetic, positive and enthusiastic with an ability to think laterally and act through reasoned decision making.
Willing to travel to clients' sites.
