Are you ready to join a growing research group in energy storage and batteries? Do you have a strong background in chemistry or process engineering with experience in inks and coatings development, and/or battery cell design and manufacture? We are looking for a Project Engineer to drive our electrode and cell scale-up production and test activities with our industrial and academic partners.
You will be employed to work on Battery Scale-Up related projects in collaboration with industry and academic partners
The project will deliver breakthrough knowledge for the benefit of all battery manufacturing sectors, including automotive, aerospace and marine. Our pilot line facility is unique within the UK and will allow manufacturing and scientific challenges such as improving energy density, power density, quality, cost, functional safety, reliability and improving lifetime to be addressed for the benefit of industry.
Ideally you will have experience in developing electrode inks and coatings and/or battery cell design and manufacture, and have working knowledge of process and quality control.
Experience of electrochemistry would be an advantage but not essential. You will have a high level of attention to detail with previous experience of record keeping for quality purposes and traceability. You will be experienced in planning and running production and test activities and delivering projects to time and budget. Your good and adaptable communication (oral and written) and presentation and training skills will enable you to work effectively with technical and non-technical colleagues and project partners

In addition to this, you will possess a good honours degree or equivalent in chemistry, physics, materials, engineering or another relevant discipline and ideally a doctorate level qualification in a relevant research field (or equivalent).
The postholder must be able to demonstrate:
A good honours degree in a relevant subject, e.g. Chemistry, Physics, Materials, Engineering or related discipline.
A willingness to carry out hands-on experimental work
A high level of attention to detail with previous experience of record-keeping for quality purposes and traceability.
A good understanding of battery electrode development (mixing and coating) and/or battery cell design and manufacture.
Experience of experimental design, data analysis and interpretation.
Experience in running scientific projects and delivering to time and budget.
Experience of industrial R&D and first implementation in 'real world' environment.
Project planning and reporting skills
Experience of making recommendations for process improvements
Good effective communication (oral and written) skills, presentation and training skills to work effectively with technical and non-technical colleagues and project partners.
Research experience of electrochemical power devices.
A doctorate level qualification in a relevant research area
Experience of battery electrode coatings development
