Our client are currently looking for an SQL Database Administrator to be based at their site in Gateshead on a fixed term basis until September 2019.
As the SQL Database Administrator you will proactively manage, maintain and enhance the SQL Server environment, ensuring its health, security, availability, performance and manageability at all times. Ensuring data integrity is maintained across all servers and databases.
Main Activities and Responsibilities include
Maintenance and administration - responsible for all aspects of database administration and maintenance.
T-SQL Querying\Programming – responsible for assisting report writers and application support in querying databases in adherence with SQL standards.
Release and change - responsible for the roll-out of database changes in accordance with formalised change management procedures.
Data Imports and ETL – responsible for importing data from various sources into databases and exporting to various destinations including data warehouse.
Documentation - responsible keeping existing documentation relevant and up to date and for producing formal documentation to accompany a piece of work.
Investigation and troubleshooting - responsible for investigating and troubleshooting all database related issues including performance management.
Backup strategy - responsible for checking the backups performing backups/restores for developers on the Test/Development environments.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
Experience as a production DBA while providing DBA support and guidance to development teams.
Experienced with all editions of MS SQL Server from 2008 to current version (2017).
Configuration of SQL Server in a HA environment including DB Mirroring, log shipping and always on high availability (Availability Groups).
Disaster recovery including MS Clustering, backup & restore methodologies.
Knowledge of Redgate SQL toolsets (Redgate SQL Backup, Redgate SQL Monitor, SQL Compare).
Good understanding of SQL Server security and best practices.
Strong ETL skills, utilising SSIS (Integration Services) and custom Transact SQL scripts\SQL Server Agent.
Data Warehouse\Data Mart exposure (creating aggregated views and data sources).
Performance tuning and optimization using native and bespoke tools.
The successful candidate will need to be open to shift work. Current shifts are 6am-2pm / 2pm-10pm / 8am-4pm
