Hardware / Electronics Engineer
You will be responsible for the development of safety-related electrical & electronic hardware and associated sensors for a military electro-optic system.
Skills, qualifications & knowledge
o You will have a degree or equivalent in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or related science (e.g. Physics).
o You will have experience in the design, analysis and testing of safety-related electrical/electronic hardware.
o You will have extensive knowledge and experience of analogue and digital circuit design.
o You will have experience of custom Printed Circuit Board/Assembly development lifecycle.
o You will have a clear understanding of safety functions and safety integrity.
o You will also have experience of interacting with other engineering disciplines (e.g. Safety, Electronics, Mechanical, Systems) to progress your work
Familiarity with some or all of the following standards is highly desirable:
o BS EN 61508: Functional safety of electrical/electronic safety-related systems.
o BS EN ISO 13849: Safety of machinery - safety-related parts of control systems.
o BS EN 62061: Safety of machinery - Functional safety of safety-related electrical, electronic and programmable electronic control systems.
o BS EN 61511: Functional safety - Safety instrumented systems for the process industry sector.
o MIL-STD-882: Standard Practice, System Safety.
Key responsibility areas
o Support to Safety Engineer for development of safety requirements, and allocation of requirements to the electrical/electronic hardware.
o Development of hardware requirements specifications for safety-related electronics and associated sensors.
o Preliminary and detailed design and of PCB-based hardware module to satisfy hardware requirements, including preparation of manufacturing data pack.
o Production of material for design reviews.
o Selection and application of safety-related components with appropriate performance levels to support the required safety integrity level for each safety function.
o Support to Safety Engineer for creation of Failure Modes and Effects Criticality Analysis, and Safety Case.
o Hardware verification and validation planning, analysis, and testing.
Intrinsic job factors
This is mainly office based role using display screen equipment, however the successful candidate will also have to work in development labs, production areas and occasionally in a clean room environment. The successful candidate will be expected to work full time hours in a flexible and demanding environment. The nature of the programs involving electronic hardware design means that any candidate being considered for the position must be capable of achieving full SC security clearance and in addition the candidate will require access to caveated information such as UK eyes only and ITAR.
