Our client is a leading prime contractor and systems integrator responsible for a wide portfolio of high technology programmes, complex integration, training and through-life support, spanning the defence and civil sectors.
This position is to work primarily on the Merlin Programme, and also support Maritime programmes.

Specific Job Description [JP] The System Safety Engineer is responsible for the co-ordination and conduct of programme safety and environmental related activities. The System Safety Engineer will support the Programme Chief Engineer and Chief System Safety Engineer in compilation of Safety Cases, associated safety arguments, and the identification and management of hazards inherent in the final product to ensure that our client complies with both legislative and contracted Health and Safety requirements and that all budgetary and programmatic commitments are met. The System Safety Engineer will be the Safety related focal point for particular subsystem(s) internally within the business, and review supplier safety documentation
Required skills, qualifications and experience Working and current knowledge of:
" UK and EU safety related legislation (e.g. Health and Safety at Work Act)
" Environmental legislation and management systems (eg. ISO14001 etc.)
" Defence and commercial safety standards such as Def Stan 00-56, Def-Stan 00-55, Mil Std 882, IEC61508, MAA Regulatory Articles)
" Project Oriented Safety Management System (POSMS)
" Safety Case development using the Adelard Safety Case Editor (ASCE)
" Hazard Management using eCassandra
" Event Tree and Fault Tree development using Reliability Work Bench
Desired skills, qualifications and experience [JP] " Application of current safety standards at the 'systems integration' level
" Reviewing sub-contractor safety documentation
" An understanding of the implication of derived safety requirements, including integrity requirements assigned to programmable elements
" Application of the Project Oriented Environmental Management System (POEMS)
" Understanding of the Military Aviation Authority Regulatory Articles as they apply to Rotary Aircraft
" Working knowledge of Def-Stan 00-970 and/or Def-Stan 00-972
" Strong interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal
" Be a team player
" Be able to work at customer or sub-contractor sites with minimal supervision
