I am currently recruiting for a Head of Design Operations to join one of my key clients on a permanent basis in Basingstoke paying up to £70,000 (depending on level of experience)
The main purpose of your role is to lead and set strategic direction for Design Operations in line with the Group's strategic objectives to be the central governance for Delivery, driving Print Innovation and New product launch.
What you will be doing on a daily basis:
-Fully satisfies the needs of the entire product portfolio inc Sales and Production departments by achieving agreed performance levels in terms of Security, Quality, Cost and Delivery.
-Provide technical advice and support as required, working with Sales, Bid team, Commercial and Delivery functions.
-Work with R&D and Marketing, ensuring implementation of Divisional Strategic Objectives insofar as they affect Design Operations
-Accountable for Technical Services support service for SPW's and Central Banks
-Accountable for short, medium and long term capacity (labour and equipment) is available to meet production and sales plans, in line with Business short to long term strategy.
-Monitor the key performance indicators within Design Operations and use these to generate improvements
-Accountable Operational Excellence & implementation
-Identify and, where appropriate, implement new ways of working, equipment, new technology and processes in order to improve performance within the Design operations and Delivery.
-Ensure that key skills and knowledge is retained in Design Operations through succession planning, Strategic development and training.
-Ensure that the Department's operating costs are maintained within the agreed budget and forecast.
-Responsible for compliance with quality and manufacturing standards (ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO18001,)
-Manage team and individual performance through regular reviews, monitoring objectives and ensuring development needs are identified and actioned.
-Responsible in conjunction with Creative Design Director & HR for major industrial relations negotiations within the Design Department with a view to maintaining a harmonious industrial relations atmosphere conducive to efficient operation of the department.
-Deputise for the Development & Design Operations Director when required.
-Ensure compliance to Environmental, Health and Safety as well as security protocols championing these with a continual eye for improvement.
-Oversee and support day to day issues by proactively prioritising, supporting and making decisions on a large range of subjects, in line with Site and Group Strategy (Delivery, Growth and Innovation).
-Lead the transformation of the department by developing and deploying the departmental operational strategy ensuring that the Operational Excellence (OpEx) framework is embedded through tactical implementation plans driving regular and sustained step change.
-Champion the site's Floor Management System ensuring day to day business is managed through localised timely PDCA cycle.
-Provide leadership and support to direct reports ensuring they are appropriately motivated, developed and performance managed.
-Drive best practice culture throughout the department and develop and embed the best current methods through internal and external benchmarking.
-Work with all levels of the organisation on understanding the processes and lead the improvements to operational capability and build the investment justifications in line with the business unit plan.
-Deliver year on year improvements to unit cost, lead times and quality of the finished product.
What you are expected to know?
-Ideally educated to degree level or above, or a proven ability in a technical discipline such as engineering or chemistry or professional management. For the right candidate with technical skills we will support their development through a degree apprenticeship in a Business Management discipline.
-A proven leader who is able to clearly demonstrate transformational drive and energy with a passion for change.
-Proven career path with experience in leading and developing teams at a senior level in a manufacturing environment with at a significant level of line management experience.
-Formal management education or in house course as part of career development.
-Proven track record in engaging, influencing and collaborating with key stakeholders to drive positive change.
-Proven delivery of Floor management Systems.
-Six Sigma Green Belt would be advantageous.
-Knowledge of Operational Excellence an advantage.
-Proven health and safety experience within operations (ideally IOSH/NEBOSH).
-Proven track record in performance management and use of HR frameworks with the ability to handle conflict and manage through others.
-Demonstrate a strong external customer/commercial awareness and business acumen.
Due to the nature of the environment you will be required to undergo security clearance so need to hold a British passport or valid visa with proof that you have lived and worked in the UK for the last 5 years.
