Manufacturing Technician - Contract - 6-12months initially - £negotiable

MAIN PURPOSE AND SCOPE JOB:
Provide hands on technical support to the Assembly Leadership, Quality and Process Engineering teams.

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:
The assembly Technician function is an integral part of the assembly production team, working closely with the Assembly Leadership, Quality and Process Engineering teams to supply the following:-

Co-ordinate fixtures, jigs and tooling, dealing with day to day tooling and equipment issues, liaising with Engineering and Toolroom teams to maximise tooling and equipment efficiency at all times.
Take responsibility for all shop floor tooling storage and record keeping.
Will have proven ability in tool design, able to liaise with Design Engineering to assist in the design of tooling for the manufacture of new products.
Apply Poka Yoke methodology to all tooling related subjects.
Work closely with the Assembly Leadership and Planning team to proactively capacity plan all tooling requirements to ensure future tooling needs are met.
Although a mainly hands on role, the technician will also get involved in creating and maintaining shop floor procedures and documents, including standard operating procedures, and routings.
PC literacy is essential to this role, also proven ability in writing manufacturing standard operating procedures.
A good working knowledge of lean methodology is required, able to deploy lean manufacturing and continuous improvement techniques, taking an active role in all lean improvement activities, as a team member or leading lean kaizen events.
The technician will be expected to take a leading role in departmental 5S programs, carrying out 5S audits to sustain and maintain standards.
Work closely with the shop floor Quality Team to ensure that the highest quality standards are maintained at all times, whilst adopting a pro-active approach to produce optimum solutions.
Ideally possess proven ability within a manufacturing and production engineering role, preferably within the Aerospace / Defence sector.
Proven ability/background in electro/mechanical assembly of small components, cable assemblies, soldering and electrical testing preferred.
Performs capability and viability studies in order to introduce new products and processes into production.
Provide support for OTD , cycle time and OEE improvement programs as part of the company wide Continuous Improvement Program , including cost reduction through contributions to CIP / Cycle time reduction.
Fully support Corporate EHS and ISO14001/9001 standards and take a role in maintaining and improving this going forward.
Promotes and encourages teamwork, a good team player with the ability to communicate at all levels within the business.
