Technical Project Manager - Automotive West Midlands £40-60k+
This is a new opportunity for a proven engineering project manager to join an expanding automotive company in the Midlands. The company is a major international player with a smaller UK presence but ambitious growth and development plans.
You will be working within a group that is accountable for the delivery of new major European models and pending seniority will take ownership for whole vehicle programmes or smaller multiple cross vehicle discipline projects. You will need to have strong communication skills, be decisive, resilient, knowledgeable, and be able to manage technical conflict resolution in order to deliver projects in accordance the vehicle programme schedule.
As a technical project manager you will work within a matrix structure and manage / lead engineering teams that are responsible for different aspects of the vehicle (e.g. chassis, powertrain, BIW, electrical, interior / exterior trim, etc) hence knowledge of cross vehicle systems and multiple engineering disciplines would be very useful (e.g. mechanical, electrical engineering etc.)
The ideal candidate would be of graduate calibre and have a design or development background gained within an automotive OEM or 1st tier supplier. The candidate would have progressed into project management and would ideally have delivered multiple whole vehicle programmes into full production. However my client is willing to consider aspiring project managers with the right aptitude and background.
Skills / Knowledge Required:
o An HNC / HND or Degree or equivalent in a relevant technical subject (e.g. mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, motorsport, physics etc)
o Strong technical project management ability having delivered multiple structured projects of a suitable nature (multi-discipline and cross vehicle)
o Strong leadership and communications skills (able to lead teams in multiple geographical locations and liaise with project teams, customers, suppliers effectively)
o Good conflict resolution and negotiation skills
o A good technical background including a strong appreciation of design, development, integration and test processes (ideally having a mechanical engineering background)
o Good appreciation of FMEA, NPI processes and automotive standards (EU passenger cars)
o Knowledge of whole vehicle systems or as many of the following (e.g. chassis / vehicle dynamics, BIW, exterior / interior trim, powertrain, electronic and electrical systems)
