Our client is looking for a "Power Electronics Design Engineer" due to continued success of projects multiple opportunities exist for proven electronics engineers to join an expanding engineering consultancy within Oxfordshire. The company is involved with the design, development, integration, test and validation of products and systems mainly for the automotive market (passenger car, motorsport, motorbike, commercial / off-highway and military vehicles).
You will be joining the electrical systems group which is involved with projects from concept through to production (including modelling, design, prototype test etc) and you will work alongside control systems, software, electrical, electronics and other power electronics engineers. The successful applicant may join the team as a principal engineer which will involve leading larger projects and teams or as a senior engineer responsible for design and delivery of smaller projects.
Projects vary considerably which challenges the engineer's and tests their ability to apply their knowledge to a broad range of tasks and technologies. Examples of work may include power and control module design for hybrid / electric vehicles, battery management, motor control, body electronics, automated gearboxes, etc.
The ideal candidate need not be an automotive engineer as this company is willing to consider those with knowledge gained in other sectors (e.g. industrial control, marine, renewable energy, defence, avionics, aerospace, rail, and medical). Candidates should be able to work from specification in order to deliver solutions, have a strong grasp of electronics first principles and be able to produce circuit schematics, layout and simulate PCBs, build, test and validate prototypes.
Knowledge / Skills Required:
" Ideally a degree in a relevant subject (e.g. electronics engineering, mathematics, physics etc)
" Proven electronics design and development ability (power electronics 10-100kW range)
" Strong schematic capture ability coupled with PCB simulation, layout and board development ability
" Proven ability of DC-DC converter design and inverter design
" Use of tools such as Orcad or Altium and Spice
" Strong practical electronics skills (able to build PCB boards, test, debug and develop them)
" Able to demonstrate applying knowledge to a broad range of design projects and systems
" Team player with good communication skills and willing to learn new technologies and mentor others
Others (beneficial):
" Understanding of Matlab / Simulink
" Knowledge of some of the following; LIN / CAN based systems, FMEA, EMC, power electronics, motor control
" Project management and team leading would be useful (essential for Principal Engineer level)
" Knowledge of Hybrid vehicle or Electric Vehicle systems would be ideal
