Description of Business Environment:
This position is for an entry level systems engineer to work within the Specialist Engineering team, within the Platform Systems Engineering Department. The Department provides specialist and systems engineers undertaking various assessment, analysis, performance modelling, design and integration activities in support of the various programmes. The current programme support spans across land, air and sea domains and includes follow-on business opportunities and research and development programmes.

Specific Job Description:
The candidate will work within a team of specialist engineers responsible for supporting the various proposals, performance and research programmes, to develop, guide efforts towards and ultimately comply with specific system requirements. This will include the research and application of appropriate design and regulatory standards, to advise the specialist and systems engineering team on appropriate requirement specification and compliance methods.

The candidate will work with system engineers who liaise with suppliers of subsystems to ensure that specifications and interfaces are correctly interpreted and implemented by the supplier, and those emergent technical risks, issues and opportunities are communicated back to the programme. The candidate will support technical meetings and formal reviews with suppliers, and analyse supplier data to ensure adequacy and correctness. This role will require travel to supplier premises and possibly temporary work assignments from other sites within the UK.

" Perform technical analyses and prepare engineering reports
" Experience of applying software development processes in a structured manner
" Ability to perform fault investigation and analysis
" Meet plans, schedules and costs with assistance from mentors

" Good communication skills

Desired Skills:
" Experience or knowledge of safety standards such as IEC61508 and Defence Standards
" Experience of interfacing with customers and or suppliers
" Knowledge of the various programming languages and their strengths and weaknesses (eg. C++, ADA)
" Good IT skills in a range of SW packages would be an advantage
" Knowledge of communication systems and RF principles
