ARM presents at Portsmouth Universities Business School Social Media lecture
What an interesting week this one's been, jam-packed full of
learning for me. The highlight, I must say, was the social media
seminar held by LCM at Portsmouth Universities Business School. To
present there as a guest "lecturer" was a privilege.
For starters, the turnout was great, which shows there is a real
interest in social media amongst the local business community,
meaning that social media adoption is finally pushing through to
the mainstream commercial audience. This can only mean one thing:
social media is here to stay!
I was invited to Wednesday evening’s seminar to give a case
study example of how we have started to roll out a social media
marketing strategy at Advanced Resource Managers. It was a great
opportunity for me to highlight our intentions to utilise social
media to further improve ARM's transparency and customer service.
In short, we hope to embrace the social media architecture to
enhance feedback with our customers : it's an opportunity that many
organisations have never previously been able to enjoy.

ARM's Sam Hill takes an audience
of about 100 local business
people on a trip through the
world of Social Media.
One of my main ambitions is to ensure that our social media
strategy remains social, and has real good will behind it. As we
progress, and the adoption of social media for business use becomes
widespread in companies generally, we must remember that the whole
concept of social media revolves around networking, relationship
building, and sharing our knowledge and expertise with customers -
not purely as a channel for pushing sales.
If I can offer one bit of advice it would be to really think
hard about what your organisation wants to gain from using social
media as a marketing channel. Although some of the success stories
are fantastic, there are also many cases of disasters for
organisations. As the subject is still at such an early stage of
development, much of the information online can be misleading. Do
your research before you decide how you would like to go about
entering the social media sphere.
