IT Technology news: Nice but high price VMware?
The downturn has caused companies to squeeze their IT budgets,
part of this squeeze has seen a rise in demand for lower-cost
virtualisation offerings from Citrix and Microsoft, with VMware
suffering because of its licensing and support costs.
Accurate comparisons between Windows Server 2008 with (free!)
Hyper-V, and VMware are difficult to make, but the benefits of
being able to integrate Exchange, as well as remote desktop
services, has meant that Citrix has arguably been suffering as
well.
The market is in no doubt that it is because of VMware's added
functionality that it is more expensive, so you do get more for
your buck. However the SME's looking into this space may not
necessarily value these advanced features in relation to cost.
Microsoft has been quick to jump on this and recognise price as an
ever increasing factor.
So the battle continues… VMware gives you more, Citrix is not a
million miles behind, but Microsoft is beginning to cash in on
their low cost position within the market. ARM is certainly seeing
demand for Citrix Support and Deployment professionals, and are
working with the vendor itself, with the majority of demand around
the Xen suite.
