Networking news: Government plans for 'Network of Networks'
Reports have been circulating this week about a new government
initiative to set up a Network of Networks which will allow public
sector organisations such as councils, health trusts and emergency
services to share their ICT services.

The aim of this ambitious project is for services to be
accessible via a common platform known as the Public Sector Network
(PSN). Since the £80 billion worth of cuts were announced earlier
in the year the government has been looking for ways to cut costs
and waste from the public sector and a planned overhaul of ICT
spending is part of this.
Obviously these plans will benefit companies within the private
sector, with names like Global Crossing and Virgin Media having
consulted on the matter.
But what effect will these plans have on smaller providers who
many include public sector organisations as clients?
And what effect with this then have on the recruitment market?
Especially the contract market, where many candidates in my
sector (networking
recruitment) undertake contracts with councils and NHS
trusts? Will these opportunities still be available or will all
network management be centralised?
I’d welcome your thoughts on this below.
