National Minimum Wage rates to increase as of 1 October 2010

With effect of 1 October 2010 the adult NMW rate will be extended to 21 year olds. In addition, an apprentice minimum wage will come into effect:-

 

Age band NMW as of 1 / 10 / 2010
Workers aged 21 and over (minimum rate per hour) £5.93
Workers aged 18-20 and those aged 21 and over engaged in accredited training[i] during the first six months of engagement[ii] (minimum rate per hour) £4.92
Workers aged 16 and 17 (minimum rate per hour) £3.64
Apprentices under 19 (or aged 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship) £2.50

 

Why is this relevant to my business relationship with ARM?

Where a change in legislation affects the Candidate’s minimum remuneration, this necessary influences our charge rates. We refer in this respect to Cls. 10.1 of our Terms of Business, which are available here.

 


 

 

 

[i] "Accredited training" is (a) training attained through a course of a description mentioned in the Further and Higher Education Act 1992 (England and Wales), or (b) by means of a course leading to a qualification approved under the Learning and Skills Act 2000 (NVQ or GNVQ in England Wales or Northern Ireland) and in Scotland an SVQ or GSVQ or other vocational qualification awarded by the Scottish Qualifications Authority. In addition it includes in-house training towards an NVQ or SVQ including at least 50% of the requirements of the relevant level and arrangements known as the "New Deal".

 

[ii] This rate applies to workers who aged 21 and over who are engaged in a new role with a new hirer and who have entered into an agreement to take part in accredited training on at least 26 days during the first six months. During their first six months they must be paid at least the "development rate" and thereafter the full adult rate.
