The new era of Social Gaming
In 2010 35 million adults participated in
some form of gaming. Over the past several years social gaming’s
free-to-play (F2P) model has surged to the forefront of
next-generation gaming, while console game companies and
traditional game developers have faltered by the wayside.
The F2P model
demonstrates how billions of smaller transactions, coupled with
lower costs and design, offer compelling game experiences which
traditional gaming companies have ignored.
Facebook is the dominant platform of choice for large social
game developers, and as a result developers are retuning their
games with the opportunity to earn competitive salaries whilst
working with new game engines and exploring new genres. Social
gaming is now a desirable and profitable industry for any game
developer to work in.
Critical real-time decisions are now a necessity, as social
gaming provides a service that constantly needs
tweaking, offering an improved user experience for both new
and existing players. It also provides a new and exciting challenge
for Developers, who must rapidly make sense of this data to
successfully take advantage of opportunities arising from user
behavior.
Many Developers I have spoken to are all fully aware of the
possibilities inherent in social gaming, and particularly in their
capacity to influence, in real time, the development and direction
of their players experience, which is unlike anything the industry
has ever seen before.
If you work in the social gaming space, let us know your
thoughts on the industry and we would love to hear your opinions on
what excites you about working in this exciting industry.
