IT Security news: Cloud Computing Security fears
It is apparent that in relation to the recent publicity
surrounding Cloud computing, there are fears and concerns over its
security that may be putting off businesses from making the switch,
our IT
Security manager Damian Hicklin explains...
From what I’ve read in recent blogs, it seems a lot of
businesses are turning their backs on cloud computing because of
one overriding fear - how secure will their corporate information
be?

Forrester Research asked IT bigwigs how they felt. Only twenty
one per cent said they had plans to exploit cloud services in 2011.
For those who don't “get” The Cloud, one can invoke the image once
used to explain the public telephone network. It is essentially the
provision of services on demand - businesses can access
infrastructure, applications, services etc, without hosting them
themselves, and the data is stored remotely. And therein lies the
problem: you do not have control over your critical data.
Worries about cloud security
are driving some companies to shift their own datacentres into
'private clouds'. It’s a practice that delivers the same on-demand
computing model, but without the security risks.
Having said that, analyst house TechMarketView predicted that
the UK cloud computing market would grow from £5.8bn in 2010 to
£10.4bn in 2014, so not everyone agrees on the status of The
Cloud!
