ARM & The IET present: Professional affiliation in the IT workplace, 17th February 10:00-15:00, Schedule Confirmed!

Many businesses perceive real value in supporting professional affiliation to the BCS and IET and there are signs that the IT industry will move to a more formally regulated basis in the future.

The event provides an opportunity to hear what the IET and BCS offer to local businesses that are consumers or vendors of IT. In particular the value of ICTTech and CITP professional registration to those businesses will be addressed. There will also be speakers from local businesses who are fully engaged with the BCS and IET and from a leading training supplier.

This is an informal event with morning coffees and a buffet lunch and there is an opportunity to network with other IT users and representatives of the institutions. It will end with a Q&A panel comprising the speakers and other representatives of the institutions.

The intended audience is IT managers and HR professionals with an interest in IT staffing.

Professional accreditation is a marathon not a sprint.

Much of the growth of professional certifications has developed because they provide evidence of professional knowledge and expertise. But have we become too reliant on obtaining qualifications at the expense of developing skills and work competencies? Are we focusing too much on what is easy to measure rather than what the organisation actually needs from its people? Simon discusses how training providers can provide the fuel, but how organisations must assume responsibility for keeping the fire alight by harnessing technology to create communities of best practice.

Simon has over 16 years' experience of providing consultancy in learning strategy and instructional design to a wide range of blue chip organisations and UK government departments. These engagements have involved activity throughout the training and learning development cycle from the identification of training needs, to the design, development, delivery and evaluation of learning programmes and training materials. In his role at Global Knowledge, Simon provides guidance on the implementation of learning strategies, solutions and developmental issues in support of major change programmes. He has a particular interest in how technology can support and enhance learning as well as assist business change.
