IT Comms news: The Android V Apple Battle Wages On
It's no secret, the Smart Phone market is booming: A study by
the market research company Canalys has reported growth of 95%
during the third quarter of 2010.
It would probably surprise some to learn that Nokia is still the
world’s number one Smart Phone manufacturer; however, Apple has
recently reported that it has 17% of world wide sales compared to
RIM's 15%.
There are some fundamental differences between the key
technologies, and it may not be a level playing field. The Apple
iPhone is just a single product whereas there are hundreds of Smart
Phones using the Android platform. Sure to have an impact is the
Microsoft offering recently released as Windows 7 with an HTC
device. Currently Microsoft holds just 3% of the smart phone
market.
As things stand it would appear Android has the upper edge, the
same Canalys report putting them at 43.6% of all devices sold.
Who knows what will happen next in this changeable market? Right
now, the battle lines seem to be drawn around brand preference.
Apple is the brand of choice for many, but the Android platform
offers compelling flexibility.
So which do you prefer - Apple or Android?
