Freelance seminar well received by local freelance community

Havant, 23rd August 2008: A seminar hosted by recruitment
specialists, Advanced Resource Managers (ARM) with the Professional
Contractors Group (PCG), which represents the UK’s freelancers, has
been well received by Hampshire’s freelance community.

Managing Directors John Brazier from PCG and Mike Gawthorne from
ARM teamed up to help contractors learn more about important issues
surrounding their work. A huge amount of interest was shown from
contractors across a variety of different disciplines.
PCG’s Policy and External Relations Manager, John Kell, gave a
valuable insight on Policies and Public Affairs paying focus
to:
- TAX
- HM Revenue and Customs
- Agencies/Status
- Regulation
- EU
- Skills and Globalisation
With Tax being the biggest concern John Kell discussed issues
related to IR35, and guidance on how to avoid paying under IR35. In
addition to this PCG representative Simon Silver-Myer spoke about
minimising the risk of IR35 and the importance of compliance.

Further discussion included S660A / Family Business Tax, Managed
Services Companies and Umbrella companies.
Paul Mason from Abbey Tax Protection provided useful information
on general “Do’s” and “Don’ts” of Contracts.
